Best Practices in Productivity

By Admin | May 6, 2008 -->343 views

How would the Best Practices in Productivity work for you and your business? If you have regular employees, then it is time to focus on each person as a storehouse of talent with immense possibilities, those that you-their leader, has the power to unlock.
Companies can increase productivity of their employees and systems through motivation:

Behavioural scientists believe that if a particular job fails to motivate a person, then productivity tends to dip. Therefore to contend this downhill trend, they suggest enriching the job in a way that translates into something more meaningful and adds value to the employee’s perception of the ‘job’.
Elaborated further, focus on the employee, background, personality type and what interests him/her. Encourage her to identify what she likes to do in a particular job and then build up her job profile.
You will find that no two people are the same and once trust in the management is established, most will stretch a little bit further to contribute better and help increase overall productivity.
Several studies have revealed that the only way to increase productivity at work is to ensure happiness of the employee. You have your finger on the pulse of the organisation if you can figure out what makes your workers happy. This may be a daunting task for a large organisation and if you are the leader then you must insist on the HR team to spend time on this task.
A regular system of objective and transparent appraisal of not only performance but satisfaction levels would automatically convey the goodwill of the company towards its employees and thus breed an environment of trust.
If an employee perceives certain tasks as mundane and a burden over a period of time, it is time he/she was encouraged to delegate those duties, while given a chance to upgrade and broaden the job profile.
As a business leader you will find that petty office politics often create ‘black holes’ in the systems which eat up productivity. Therefore mentoring and grievance handling should be essential duties of department heads and project leaders. Initiate regular question-answer sessions to plug dissatisfaction loopholes in the system.
Many small businesses tend to ignore HR practices since they find that skilled employees are easily to come by. What they need to realise is that if employee turnover is high in the organisation, it eats up into productivity, since retrenchment costs and frequent breaks in the regular cycle of work brings down profitability
